Parliament Square

Headed off to Parliament Square to see the statue of Nelson Mandela that was unveild 29 August 2007. The statue is very detailed - I was quite impressed.
Interestingly there was a bit of contoversy over the location of the statue. It took five years to decide where the statue should reside.

In 2005, the council blocked the mayor's bid to install the 9ft (2.7m) bronze sculpture in Trafalgar Square. The £400,000 statue by the late Ian Walters is now in the central garden of the square.
What I love about the statue is the detail on his shirt. Reminding everyone of his unique style of dress. While I was there quite a few people came to take photos, the one group were all wearing SA rugby jerseys, the other group had a girl wearing a SA scarf and since the SA vs Argentina game is tonight I was wearing my rugby jersey. There are quite alot of statues in Parliament Square and none of the others were getting photographed.

I thought I would look and see if I knew any of the other people who had statues, I didn't recognise any of the names of the statues I saw but according to the BBC they include the likes of Winston Chuchill and Abraham Lincoln. I did find one impressive name it is on the side of one of the statues. Took a pic, not sure if any of you know the name.
